How the auction works

With every pre-order, you first decide on what you want and what you can afford. Once you know those two things, we can begin.

The first thing we need to find out is how much ‘your’ vehicle sells for at the auction. To determine this, we browse through (together) the auction history of the past 6 months to determine the average winning bid. We then determine what we call the “maximum bid”. This will be the value that we would use to bid from the auctions.

It is always a good idea to set the maximum bid a little bit above average to increase your chances of landing the vehicle. Bidding more does not mean paying more.

The great thing about the auctions in Japan is that, even if you bid $2500, it does not mean you will pay that full amount. Your bid will automatically out bid the next bidder by $50 until it passes your max bid in which case you will not win. If no one bids on the vehicle or few people did, your chance of winning at a lower amount is really high.

We are the type of companies who like to under promise and over deliver. All our costs are transparent to you. You will have access to all invoices along the way. You add them up and that is what your cost is plus our fee. If I was to buy a car for company stock, that would also be my cost--less my own fee of course.

Our service fee of $1500 appears to be high but we guarantee 100% honesty through out the entire process. You will likely notice that even with our $1500 fee, our competitors pricing are still higher when they claim to only charge $1000. Go figure.

The process generally takes 2 – 3 months. Again, we like to over deliver.

To begin, all we need is a deposit for the amount of the ‘max bid’. Once the vehicle is won, then you will need to wire the difference between the ‘max bid’ and the ‘Estimated Total Cost before we ship it back.

Break Down of Estimated Landing Cost:

1992 Toyota Hilux Surf example:
Max Bid determined to be $2100

Freight: $1400 (on average)
Car Purchase and fees (cost of car, recycle fee, shakken, inland transport, auction tax etc): $3150
Local Duties and fees (based on landing in BC): $1300
Service Fee: $1500

Estimated Total Landing Cost: $7500 Cdn
*Plus or minus $200 depending on fuel prices at the time of shipping.
